Why must I login to use parts of this site?
We ask you to login to enable the website to store your personal scores when you use the Puzzle Centre and HCAI Challenge infection control Coaching Quiz.

How do I login?
You will be taken automatically to the login screen if you choose either the Puzzle Centre, Coaching Quiz or Personal Achievements links.

How do I change my login details?
You can change all your details once you are logged in. The link appears at the top of the page on the left hand side.

What if I’ve forgotten my login details?
Go to the area you wish to visit and follow the on-screen instructions,

The Puzzle Centre

What is the Puzzle Centre?
The Puzzle Centre is a collection of interactive puzzles designed to test out your infection control knowledge. It is free and open to all domiciliary and care staff within Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

What does the Puzzle Centre contain?
It contains a mixture of true or false, multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank puzzles in three difficulty levels covering four topics.

What topics does the Puzzle Centre cover?
The Puzzle Centre covers four main topics. These are:
- Cause and spread of infection
- Preventing and controlling the spread of infection
- Legislation relevant to infection prevention and control
- Roles, responsibilities and boundaries.

What is the difference between the bronze, silver and gold puzzles?
Each puzzle has been written to reflect an NVQ level starting with Bronze being Level 1 equivalent, Silver being Level 2 equivalent, and Gold being Level 3 equivalent.

  How do you know which puzzles will suit you best...

Bronze
...if you do not read, write or speak English fluently, or if your work tasks could be regarded as routine and predictable.

Silver ...if you are at NVQ level 2 or if you are performing some tasks that may be complex or non-routine.

Gold ...if you are at NVQ level 3 or if you are performing complex and non-routine tasks regularly. You may also have responsibility for managing or guiding others.

How do I access the Puzzle Centre?
You will find the Puzzle Centre link within the 'Quick links' section on the right hand side of the page and also on the top menu bar on every other page.

Can I use the Puzzle Centre if I’ve attended an HCAI Challenge training course?
Yes, we recommend that anyone who has attended a training course completes the Puzzle Centre to enhance their infection control knowledge further.

How do I play the puzzles?
After choosing a bronze, silver or gold puzzle, read the on-screen question and answer it accordingly.

Do I have to complete the topics in order?
No, you can play the topics in ANY order you wish.

What is the minimum pass mark?
The pass mark for all puzzles within the Puzzle Centre is 60%.

What happens if I do not achieve the minimum pass mark?
You will not be awarded a Certificate of Achievement until you achieve a 60% pass mark.You may play the puzzles as many times as you wish to achieve the pass mark.

Can I stop mid-way through a puzzle?
No, you must complete each puzzle in order for your score to count.

Can I use my internet browser’s ‘back’ button while playing a puzzle?
You can use your browser's 'back' button anywhere in the site EXCEPT while playing the puzzles. This is to prevent a question being scored twice.

If I’ve answered a question incorrectly do I get another chance to answer it?
No. The Puzzle Centre is an assessment of your knowledge and therefore it takes your first answer. However, you can play the puzzle again to improve your score.

How can I find out what puzzles I’ve completed?
Go to the Personal Achievements section.

If I’ve already completed a gold puzzle and passed but then later completed either a silver or bronze puzzle but not achieved the pass mark, is my higher rating affected?
No, the highest score from the hardest difficulty will always be used on your Certificate.

What do I get when I’ve completed the four topics?
If you have achieved the 60% pass mark for one puzzle within each of the four topics, you can print a personalised Certificate of Achievement from the Personal Achievements section. See the Certificates section for more information.

Are my scores shared with anyone?
Your individual scores for the Puzzle Centre are not shared with anyone.




The Coaching Quiz

What is the Coaching Quiz?
The Coaching Quiz is a self-assessment tool that tests infection control knowledge gained within the HCAI Challenge infection control training course.

What does the Coaching Quiz contain?
18 randomly selected multiple choice questions based on the six topic areas covered within the HCAI Challenge infection control training course.

Who is the Coaching Quiz aimed at?
The Coaching Quiz is only for those who have attended an HCAI Challenge infection control training course. It is a post-course assessment tool designed to test knowledge gained within the training course.

How do I access the Coaching Quiz?
If you attend one of the HCAI Challenge infection control training sessions, you will be provided with an HCAI Challenge Passport. This Passport has a Unique ID printed on the front cover. You use this Unique ID to access the Coaching Quiz.

What is the Unique ID?
It is a code that is used to identify individuals who have attended one of the HCAI Challenge infection control training courses.

What if I’ve forgotten or lost my Unique ID?

How do I sit the Coaching Quiz?
Click the 'HCAI Challenge Coaching Quiz' link in the 'Quick links' section on the right hand side of the home page, or, on the top menu bar on every other page, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Can I use the Coaching Quiz if I haven’t attended an HCAI Challenge course?
No, the Coaching Quiz is only available to those who have attended an HCAI Challenge training course.

The pass mark for the Coaching Quiz is 80%.

You have the chance to play the Coaching Quiz three times. After that you will not be able to access it again.

What do I get when I’ve completed the Coaching Quiz?

If I’ve already completed the Coaching Quiz and achieved the minimum pass mark can I try it again to improve my score?
Yes, you have three attempts to get 80% or above, your highest score will be recorded. However, if you fail to achieve the minimum pass mark at a later attempt your score will not be affected.

Is there a maximum amount of times I can sit the Coaching Quiz?
Yes, you have three attempts to achieve the 80% pass mark.

Is there a time limit by which I must have completed the Coaching Quiz?
No, there is no time limit, you can sit the Coaching Quiz when it suits you.

Is the pass mark information shared with anyone?
Yes, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin have access to an administration area that gives them a breakdown of general statistics covering your scores in the Coaching Quiz.




Certificates

How do I gain a certificate?
There are two types of certificate available within the Care Portal.

1. Certificate of Achievement
You are awarded the Certificate of Achievement if you achieve a 60% pass mark in all four topics (regardless of puzzle difficulty)
You can play any mix of puzzles (bronze, silver or gold) to achieve your Certificate

2. Certificate of Excellence
You are awarded the Certificate of Excellence if you achieve a 80% pass mark when answering the 18 questions in the infection control Coaching Quiz


How do I view and print my Certificates?

Your Certificates are contained within the Personal Achievements section. You will be unable to print these until you have achieved the pass mark set for either the puzzles or the Coaching Quiz. When you have achieved a pass mark (for each of the four topics within the Puzzle Centre, and/or for the infection control Coaching Quiz) then the 'Print Certificate' button becomes available within the Personal Achievements section. You will see a record of your highest score(s) on the Certificate.

Can I take my Certificates to a new job?
Yes, any Certificates gained within the Care Portal are based upon national standards and are therefore transferable. They provide evidence of your infection control knowledge.

What is the value any Certificates gained?
They provide evidence to your employer that you have achieved a minimum standard of knowledge in infection, prevention and control.




Personal Achievements

What is in Personal Achievements?
This area of the Care Portal divides into two sections, the Puzzle Centre and the HCAI Challenge infection control Coaching Quiz. The HCAI Challenge Coaching Quiz section only becomes available if you have attended an HCAI Challenge infection control training course, where you will receive a Unique ID.

Puzzle Centre section
This is a record of the puzzles you have played and the scores you have achieved. A small picture of your personalised Certificate of Achievement gives an indication of your highest scores in each of the four topics areas. When you have completed and passed one puzzle from each of the four topic areas, you will be able to print out your own Certificate. See the Certificates section for more information.

HCAI Challenge infection control Coaching Quiz section
This is a record of your scores in the Coaching Quiz. You are able to sit this quiz a maximum of three times. A small picture of your personalised Certificate of Excellence gives an indication of the highest score you have achieved. When you have completed and passed the quiz, you will be able to print out your own Certificate. See the Certificates section for more information.
